If you have an upcoming interview with a USCIS Field Office—including the Houston Field Office—please be aware of a recent change in policy regarding interpretation services.
USCIS Will No Longer Provide Interpreters
As of now, USCIS will no longer be providing interpreters for interviews. If you require language assistance, it is your responsibility to bring an interpreter with you to your scheduled appointment.
Who Needs to Bring an Interpreter?
If you are not fluent in English and will need help understanding or responding to questions during your USCIS interview, you must arrange to bring an interpreter. This includes interviews for:
-
Adjustment of Status (Green Card)
-
Naturalization (Citizenship)
-
Asylum
-
Other benefits requiring in-person interviews
Interpreter Requirements
Your interpreter must be:
-
Fluent in English and your native language
-
Able to interpret accurately and impartially
-
Over the age of 18
-
Someone who is not your attorney or accredited representative
Can’t Find an Interpreter in Time?
If you’re unable to secure an interpreter before your scheduled interview, you must contact USCIS to reschedule. Attending your interview without an interpreter (if one is needed) may result in delays or denial of your case.
What You Should Do:
-
Check your interview notice – Make sure you know the date, time, and location.
-
Make interpreter arrangements now – Don’t wait until the last minute.
-
Contact USCIS if needed – If you’re unable to find someone, it’s better to reschedule than to miss your chance.
